Thales 2022

Saturday June 18th saw the Dolphin Social Club’s annual fishing match take place at its traditional home of Hunters Pool.

The match first took place in 1995 and has provided a valuable source of income (and new members) to Windmill over the years.

This year’s match saw 6 members and guests battling it out for the new “Hunter’s Pool Cup” after the original trophy was retired in 2020.

After a fairly steady start most people began to struggle for bites, apart from Jamie on the boat peg who managed to keep his swim alive and added a couple of carp to his keepnet.

Going into the last hour it looked as though Jamie would claim the cup until Pete Boyce hooked a large carp. Sometime later when Pete had finally guided the carp to his landing net it appeared the match had been won.

However there was late drama as Pete’s landing net handle snapped under the weight of his capture. Showing true sporting character Andy Southern lent Pete his landing net, the carp was finally scooped up and placed into Pete’s keepnet for a short wait until the end of the match.

It was indeed a match winner, the 8lb 2oz carp giving Pete a total weight of 9lb 3oz.

The DSC contribution along with the peg fees and the fact that Pete & Jamie both donated their pools money meant that the total income for Windmill was £133.

Thanks from the DSC (or Ferranti Thompson Sonar Systems Recreation and Social Club as we were in 1995) for the loan of Hunters Pool and hopefully we’ll do it all again next year.
