Windmill Juniors 2022

It was a beautiful, rather autumnal morning at Hunters Pool. The air was still and the trees silent – ready for the onslaught of “The Windmill Juniors”!

As the parents/grandparents and children arrived we agreed the pegs and the draw started, it was a pretty muted affair as none of the children had met each other before, let alone fished in a competitive match. All the chosen pegs were in the deeper half of Hunters to give everyone an equal chance of some decent fish.

Thankfully, quite early into the match, it was obvious that most were catching and, to add to the relaxed atmosphere, the sun really started to shine, just bringing some welcome warmth to the mid-September day.

We’d agreed to weigh any larger fish immediately and Bradley Watson-Parke landed a Perch that turned out to be just under 2lb, so the chase was on!

Later in the match Bradley got a large Bream, weighing in at 5lb 3oz as well as another Perch (both Perch were weirdly on Sweetcorn) and Harry got a 2lb 9oz Bream and this after dropping one a few minutes before.

So, we started the weigh in and the children got talking and laughing – just what we’d hoped for. The results are below with Bradley a worthy winner, but, the reality was that all concerned were winners.

The children sat down to Hot Dogs and Chips – courtesy of Libby Metcalfe (Thank You very much) and then we held the presentation ceremony where everyone got a trophy, certificate, hat and a, well deserved, bag of sweets!

Bradley Watson-Parke – 9lb 12oz (Unbelievably Bradley’s weight at birth, so we’re told)

Harry Kaye – 3lb 7oz

Seb Braddock – 2lb 1oz

Oscar Sebes – 1lb

Harley Sebes – 3oz

Alex Metcalfe – 6 fabulous beetles and a great effort!

Thank you to all involved – especially the children!

Finally, the club thanks everyone involved for all their hard work in getting this event off the ground, especially Nick Metcalfe, Bob Hallworth and Stu Drabble.
