The Windmill Angling Club Trophy – July 2023
It’s not just a match, it’s a get-together with a large dose of banter and laughter.

Hunters was a wee bit cooler and fresher on this fine Sunday morning. Although there had clearly been rain for some hours before, at least it had stopped just prior to the intrepid Matchmen gathering!
Mark Bowden drew the peg that had propelled him to legendary Windmill status (peg 7) and he, ominously, put 2 keepnets in the water!
Although we had some intermittent rain, it stayed away for the most part and everyone had a lovely day, with banter and insults flying around the large pool. Most people were catching and there was plenty of movement from the “Wolf-Packs” of Carp. And then, 2/3 of the way into the match, Nick Hunt hooked a sizeable carp and landed it. As soon as he got it in his keepnet, he cast out again and hooked another. Some of us actually thought he’d not managed to net the first one and was actually still playing it!
The weigh in went smoothly as we’ve at last figured out how to use the tripod, scales and sling competently!
Stu awarded Nick the “Windmill Angling Club” Trophy and then, with great merriment, the Booby Prize went to Paul Abela. Just look at the smile on his face! We really do have a fabulous club with dedicated members and, on days like this, it all comes together!
So, the final results were…

A huge thank you to Stu for organising the match today. A really good day – and very good financially for the club (Nick, the winner and the runners up donated their prize money to the club) as well as it earning the match fees.
