After some fears about the weather, we woke up to a Sunday without a cloud in the sky. The eleven intrepid anglers made their way to Gawsworth, a stunning house and grounds set in deepest Cheshire.

Gawsworth Fisheries is an all round fishery that comprises of five lakes: Wall Pool, Wood Pool, Park Pool, Coppice Pool and Spring Bank Pool as well as its own private canal, The Serpentine Canal, where we were fishing. It’s an average of seven feet deep and is very heavily stocked with a lot of small to medium size carp up to 6lb as well as a good head of Bream, Tench and Crucian Carp.

After a slice of Banana Cake each, we drew our pegs at 10am promptly and made our way to our individuals pegs. They we very well spread out as, the maximum the Canal can accommodate is 46 pegs and there were just 11 of us.

It was outstanding to see Archie Gibson fishing the match – a junior and he fished it totally independently of his father, Glenn – well done you!

We fished from 11am – 4pm and everyone got some heat from the sun and the fish seemed to be playing ball too! That became apparent as we met for the weigh in – with many in double figures, but everyone with several pounds of fish in their keepnets, no “only a couple of ounces” here!

Please see the picture of Stu awarding the match Trophy to Bob.

Well done everyone – and, hopefully, here’s to another match next year. I think we were all in agreement that it was a great day and, we were all exhausted by the time we got home.

So, the final results were…
