The Peter Edge Celebration Cup – 2024

Anne Edge and the worthy winner, Sandra Carter
It was a very autumnal morning for our third, annual, Peter Edge Celebration Cup. There had been a real deluge of rain overnight and quite a lot of bouts of Thunder and Lightning, so we hoped that Hunters would be a bit deeper, with the influx of fresh water, but, not too cold because of it.
During the drive to Hunters, the rain was continuing to come down and it was looking like we would get ourselves and all our gear wet during the draw for the pegs and then whilst setting it all up, but, it stopped right on queue and we even saw some blue sky peak out for a short time as well.
All the participants arrived on time and we headed to our duly drawn pegs and still the rain held off. All-in was called and, just after we all cast in for the first time, a few spots of rain started that then turned into the story for the rest of the match, minus a couple of short breaks – and they were short. Midway through the match Bob had noticed a Kingfisher flying across Hunters and it, eventually, came to land on an empty peg – Peg 14 – Peter’s favourite peg! It was clear by this time that everyone was catching, Sandra was the first to land a decent fish and then Nick hooked into a large carp that, ultimately, got free in the lillies and then Mick landed a beautiful carp after a long fight.
Unbelievably, the rain finished just all-out was called, allowing us to have the weigh-in and presentation without everyone being under cover!
The catches were pretty good considering the weather, with the standout fish being Mick and Sandra’s respective carp.
Anne Edge kindly travelled to Hunters to make the presentation to Mike for third, Mick for second and a well-deserved first to Sandra – well done! We then announced that the club had raised £200 through an increase in the peg fees, which the club had matched and then a generous boost from Nick too and we’d donated it to the Christie in Peter’s name. A wee bit later, we got a message saying that Anne had added a further £100 to that, so, a brilliant day all-round!
