Hunters Pool Refurbishment 2021
Our (ultimately successful) proposal stated, “Hunters Pool is in need of renovation beyond the financial ability of a club of twenty-five senior members.
If we don’t renovate Hunters, our ability to attract new members and promote our sport into the next generation is much reduced. There is no desire to turn Hunters into something it isn’t already, just to bring it back to its best and preserve it for the enjoyment of Anglers for many years to come.”

Aquatic Solutions
Their opening statement on their website is… “We breathe new life into your water course.” Well, it does what is says on the tin as far as we are concerned.
We needed an expert partner company to fix two problems at Hunters Pool:-
1) Remove as much organic silt as we could from the large pool. We have very mature trees surrounding and overlooking the pool and, although they look great, they shed their leaves once a year and they (along with any branches that fall) break down in the water and become silt. We’ve got over 100 years of the stuff, so Hunters is several feet shallower than it used to be
2) We also needed to build up our West Bank. It’s the lowest bank at Hunters and, when the water is at its deepest, it regularly gets flooded, rendering it unusable for a couple of months of the year.
Aquatic Solutions really did come up with a solution that was Aquatic! Build a new bank wall from “Nicospan,” a water-permeable membrane that will let the water out, but retain the silt in. So, they installed it slightly out from the existing bank, about a foot higher than it was and simply dropped tonnes and tonnes of silt behind the new bank. As the year progresses, the silt will dry into soil and we’ll have a new, water-proof bank next to deeper water.
Upon request, they did an initial “guesstimate” from the pictures and measurements we sent them. Shortly afterwards, Tom, from Aquatic Solutions, visited Hunters several times, initially to allow him to quote more accurately and then to conduct site surveys, once with one of their Truxor operators and once with his MD. This, in itself, was outstanding as they are based in Rugby and we are near Wilmslow, Cheshire and, in all fairness, this was quite a small job for them. They also advised and lead us by the hand as we really didn’t know what we could expect to get for our money.
It’s also key to mention that their quote for the work was by far the most competitive – What a result we had all-round!
After meticulously planning the operation, they turned up as promised and got straight into building the new bank and filling with silt. Much of it was done in terrible North West England Winter weather – but they soldiered on and produced a result that exceeded our expectations. I know they increased the men initially allocated to the project to ensure they delivered. And they did – BANG ON BUDGET as well.
